What happens during a preventive appointment with an oral health therapist?

At Smiles HQ, we understand the importance of preventive dental care; it’s the foundation for keeping your teeth and gums healthy. That’s why we recommend a routine visit every six months so we can professionally remove plaque and tartar build-up and assess your oral health.

But what happens during a preventive visit with an oral health therapist?

Your Visit With an Oral Health Therapist

Once you’re comfortably seated in one of our treatment rooms, an experienced oral health therapist will clean your teeth.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • They’ll inspect your teeth and gums, looking for any dental issues.
  • Then, using special dental tools, they will remove hardened plaque and tartar from between your teeth and around your gumline.
  • Once they’ve removed the plaque, they’ll use an electric toothbrush and gritty toothpaste to polish your teeth.
  • They’ll complete your treatment by flossing between each tooth and asking you to rinse your mouth.
